The UNC School of Social Work is located in the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building on the western edge of the campus. Our building is located across the street from the State Employees Credit Union, and is between the FedEx Global Education Center and the School of Public Health.
Parking is limited and a schlep. But the buses are free! The NS and CL stop right across from our building.
Visitor Parking
There are two handicapped spaces beside the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building. All other spaces require a permit to park.
The best option for visitors to UNC SSW is the Dogwood Deck. This is the large, tiered pay parking at UNC Hospital. It is just under a half-mile walk to the School of Social Work (Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building).
Walking directions to the School from the Dogwood Deck:
- Walk left up Manning Dr.
- Turn right onto S. Columbia Street.
- At the Health Sciences Library crosswalk (traffic light), cross S. Columbia Street.
- Turn right and follow first brick path on the left. The Tate-Turner-Kuralt building will be on the right.
Allow about 15 minutes walking time.
Public pay lots in the downtown area of Chapel Hill are a little further, but reasonable options if you are also spending time in Chapel Hill.

Driving Directions to the Parking Deck
From the east:
Take I-40 West to Exit #273A. Take NC 54 West to Chapel Hill. Take US 15-501 South to Manning Drive. Turn right onto Manning Drive. The Dogwood Deck is nine-tenths of a mile from US 15-501 on the left.
From the north:
Take NC 86 South (which becomes Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.) to downtown Chapel Hill. Turn right onto Cameron Avenue (2nd light after Franklin Street) then make an immediate left onto Pittsboro Street. Bear left when the road splits. Go straight across South Columbia Street and you will be on Manning Drive. The Dogwood Deck is three-tenths of a mile on the right.
From the south:
Take US 15-501 North to Chapel Hill. US 15-501 becomes South Columbia Street at the NC 54 intersection. From South Columbia Street, turn right onto Manning Drive. The Dogwood Deck is three-tenths of a mile on the right.
From the west:
Take NC 54 East to Chapel Hill. Exit at Columbia Street/US 15-501 and turn left onto South Columbia Street. From South Columbia Street, turn right onto Manning Drive. The Dogwood Deck is three-tenths of a mile on the right.
Park and Ride Lots
Another option for getting to the School is parking in one of the park and ride lots and taking a free Chapel Hill transit bus onto campus. There are five park and ride lots that are open to the public and don’t require a permit to park. For more information and to view bus schedules, see the Chapel Hill Transit Web site. The closest bus stops to the School are Pittsboro St./Credit Union and S. Columbia St./Health Sciences Library.
Public Transportation
Airport: Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
