Description:  Research demonstrates that self-compassion is significantly linked to increased happiness, vitality, motivation and optimism and decreased anxiety, depression and stress. Even more promising, self-compassion has been demonstrated to be a mutable trait–cultivated through the practice of guided meditations and daily informal exercises and meditations. Participants of this two-day workshop will learn the core skills of the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training, an empirically-supported program designed to cultivate self-compassion using meditation, daily life practices, lecture, group exercises and discussion. Self-compassion is an emotional skill that can be learned by anyone. You will be provided with essential tools for treating yourself in a kind, compassionate way whenever you suffer, fail, or feel inadequate. These practices can be instrumental to mental health practitioners both for their own self-care as well as helping clients. This workshop is relevant for the general public as well as practicing mental health professionals.

Kristin Neffkrisin-neff-phd, PhD is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on self-compassion, being the first one to operationally define and measure the construct over a decade ago. In addition to her pioneering research into self-compassion, she has developed an eight-week program to teach self-compassion skills in daily life, co-created with her colleague Dr. Chris Germer, called Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) . Her book, Self-Compassion, was published by William Morrow in April, 2011.
