Description: Partners in Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS; aka Feedback informed Treatment, FIT) was borne out of the recognition that clients’ preferences and their voices should be elevated above allegiance and adherence to any theory and technique. In short, PCOMS represents an evidence-based approach that is grounded in social justice and that meets the ethical obligation for counselors to monitor clinical effectiveness. Providers are encouraged to strengthen the therapeutic alliance, which is the most robust predictor of clinical outcomes, through greater collaboration and honoring of clients’ perspective. NOTE: This program may be counted towards ethics requirements for license renewal.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Tom Murray is director of Counseling Services at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and holds faculty appointments within Walden University’s Mental Health Counseling program, as well as a clinical professorship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Wake Forest University. He received his PhD in Couple and Family Counseling from the University of Florida in 2005. His current professional service includes the editorial review board of the Journal of Mental Health Counseling and faculty member for the August, 2016 NC Sexual Health Conference. He has 13 publications to his credit, which have appeared in a variety of peer reviewed journals, including the Family Journal, the Journal of College Student Psychotherapy, Contemporary Family Therapy, among others. His commentary has also appeared in online publications of Men’s Health and Women’s Health magazines. In 2015, Dr. Murray obtained the AASECT Sex Therapist designation and has a small private practice specializing in sex and couples therapy.
